Sarah Huckabee Sanders launches new website as she weighs run for Arkansas governor

Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday launched a sleek new personal website, a move sure to further stoke speculation that the former White House press secretary is likely to enter the 2022 Arkansas gubernatorial race. The high-polish site is replete with images advertising her tenure as President Donald Trump’s chief spokeswoman and text emphasizing her close relationship with the president. A brief introduction on the site’s homepage, which prominently displays a photograph of Sanders addressing reporters outside the White House, identifies her as a “trusted confidante of the President” who “advised him on everything from press and communications strategy to personnel and policy.” The blurb notes that Sanders “is only the third woman — and the very first mom — to ever hold the job of White House Press Secretary.” A longer a 336-word biography on the site states that for “two and a half years, Sarah was at the President’s side, battling with the media, working with lawmakers and CEOs, and staffing the President on every foreign trip, including dozens of meetings with foreign leaders.” That biography touts Trump’s description of Sanders “as ‘irreplaceable,’ a ‘warrior’ and ‘very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job,’” upon her departure from the White House in June. The site also allows visitors to enter their personal information to “stay in touch” with Sanders or “send Sarah a note,” and includes a link to “request Sarah speak at an event” — which directs to Sanders’ profile page on the Premiere Speakers Bureau website. Though the site’s rollout could function simply as an online vehicle to facilitate Sanders’ speaking engagements, it could also mark the beginnings of a sleek digital presence as she considers mounting a campaign to replace two-term Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican first elected in 2014. Sanders’ new site is not the first to fan political gossip related to her career prospects. Jon Gilmore, a political strategist for Hutchinson, noted on Twitter in June that SarahforGovernor.com and SarahforArkansas.com were registered on the same day in May. Three people who have spoken to Sanders told POLITICO in June that she is seriously considering a run, and multiple people close to Sanders spoke of a poll commissioned by her allies that showed Sanders beating her potential rival candidates in the gubernatorial race. Those people refused to share any further details of the poll. Trump in June endorsed a potential bid by Sanders, tweeting that “she would be fantastic” at the top job in Little Rock. But Sanders’ father, former presidential candidate and ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, insisted a week later that she was still undecided on running for governor. “She doesn’t know. I mean, that’s the honest answer,” Huckabee told conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt. “The truth is, she has not had time to come up for air in the past three years. So she’s going to take some time to get her kids enrolled in school in Arkansas for the fall, go to vacation, just have some downtime — which is something she hasn’t done. And, you know, then she’ll start exploring.” Sanders last month appeared at an exclusive Republican Governors Association-hosted retreat, and Fox News on Thursday announced she will join the network as a contributor.
